The Assisted Dying Bill is back

– write to your MP now

In the last parliamentary session, the Assisted Dying Bill failed to pass through the House of Lords. But it has been reintroduced by Lauren Edwards and will have a second reading on the 12th of September in the House of Commons, unchanged from the last parliament, despite all its flaws. Both Adam Dance and Edward Morello voted for the bill in the last session of parliament. Without your intervention, they will likely do the same.

Please continue to pray, but also write to your MP in opposition to this bill. It only went through the House of Commons last time by a very small majority.

There is plenty material available to help you:

If you can, Include an account of how the introduction of the bill might affect you or someone you love. For example, many areas have very poor provision of palliative care and a person might thus feel the best option is to end their life. Others may opt for assisted suicide because they do not want to be a burden on their family. Or you may know of someone who has had excellent palliative care, and kept comfortable throughout their illness, negating the need for suicide (there is no provision in the bill to improve the current patchwork of palliative care services).

Please talk to Gordon McFarlane or David Barnes if you have any questions.
